Too Much & The Kitchen, By Kyra on Nov 5, 2008
Too Much & The Kitchen

Being a student of yoga and having had an education in health food you’d think I’d be always conscious of my own feeding pattern and act accordingly. I must confess, this is not the case.

So okay, I DO think about what I eat, when and how much. But I do NOT always act according to what I know is best…

I catch myself overeating after cooking a meal that’s too lovely to be left to sit and turn bad in the fridge.
The art of Ayurveda tells us that food is best eaten fresh, so no freezing and storing in much loved Tupperware containers… Boohooo!

But it also tells us that overeating is like putting to much wood on a fire: it stops the fire from burning and creates indigestion.
So what to do? What to do with the left over munchies we so lovingly whisked together?

My current ‘thing’ is to act as the economical and social cook I’d like to be.

I measure my food. Feel out my level of ‘hunger’ and consciously cook enough to satisfy.

I try to scoop only one plate full and duck-tape myself to my chair to stay away from the pans. I don’t put them on the table with me but keep them in the kitchen.

I please my neighbours, roommates, family members, friends or unknown passers-by when I have left over food and share my cooking. They sometimes do not feel like cooking and will be more than happy to eat mine.

So basically: prepare being aware and share!

Namaste, Kyra
