My birth name is Kyra. Quite a nice name with strong roots in all sorts of different ancient cultures and languages like Sanskrit and Greek. Although I think I have a suiting name one of my friends in yoga thinks otherwise and continually calls me Kriya.
The word Kriya means action or deed. There are six major kriya’s or physical cleansing techniques used in yoga. Cleanliness of the in- and outside of the body is important in yoga. Our bodies are our temples and should be kept pure and healthy. Thus we are able to live vitally and can reach our state of loving emptiness.
Cleansing, or fasting, is also a well known and much used technique in the world of Western Natural Medicine.
But where kriya’s are done mostly to optimise health to prepare the body for meditation and Samadhi, Western fasting is done to reach the goal of preventing or curing chronic disease. Both are, in my opinion, extremely helpful.
Spring is the season for starting new ventures. The perfect period to do a cleanse and begin the new year afresh!
Autumn is the season for letting go of old and unnecessary baggage, be it physical or mental. Perfect for delving into the world of fasting!
If you have a chronic ailment such as bowel problems, constipation, eczema, allergy, rheumatic problems, fatigue, headaches, migraines and hypo-glycaemia, or you are interested in feeling energised and vital again then make sure you join me at the upcoming lecture December the 14th in Utrecht.

Namaste, Kyra
